  • Rare somatostatin-producing neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) which arise primarily in the pancreas (from D cells) and duodenum
  • May or may not secrete excess somatostatin, called somatostatin syndrome.
  • Somatostatin inhibits the secretion of endocrine hormones including insulin which contributes to diabetes as well as paracrine hormones including cholecystokinin, VIP, GIP, PP[11]
