FDA
- Otitis media caused by H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis and S. pyogenes
- Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by S. pyogenes (PCN is the drug of choice)
- Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (AECB) caused by S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae (note: relatively poor S. pneumoniae activity)
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and P. mirabilis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervicitis and urethritis, see NOTE under COMMENTS regarding use of cefixime for treating gonorrhea)
NON-FDA APPROVED USES
- Sinusitis, acute (not a first line agent)
- Prophylaxis after sexual victimization
