Stereotypic Movement Disorders
DEFINITION
- Characterized by repetitive, rhythmic movements with a predictable pattern in form, amplitude, and localization. These movements can be self-injurious or non-self-injurious.
- Stereotypic movement disorders are classified under the Neurodevelopmental Disorder section of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5)[1].
