Naegleria fowleri
MICROBIOLOGY
- Free-living ameba, ubiquitous in the environment, is found in warm freshwater and soil. Rarely found in inadequately chlorinated tap water or swimming pools.
- Phylum Percolozoa - Organisms feed on bacteria.
- N. fowleri is the only known species to cause human disease. - Other free-living amoebae Naegleria are not considered pathogenic.
