      • Old World member, part of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus [LCMV]/Lassa complex
  • Zoonosis as endemic, persistent, asymptomatic infection in rodent populations ["multimammate rat" (Mastomys natalensis)] within West Africa.
    • Infected rodents shed virus in urine and droppings, which can be aerosolized.
