PATHOGENS
Common pathogens for acute otitis media :
- S. pneumoniae
- Haemophilus influenzae (non-typeable)
- Moraxella catarrhalis
- Group A Streptococcus
- SARS-CoV-2
- While not common, case reports suggest it can cause AOM without classic URI symptoms.
Potential pathgoens for chronic otitis media
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- S. aureus
- Enterobacteriaceae
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (consider if from regions with high rates of TB)
- Non-tubercular mycobacteria (rare)
- Aspergillusspecies
- Candida species (rare, more likely found as a colonizer)
