Molluscum contagiosum


  • Molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV): large, brick or ovoid-shaped double-stranded DNA pox virus [Fig 1], genus Molluscipox, family Poxviridae.
    • Two subtypes: cause indistinguishable lesions.
      • MCV I
      • MCV II
  • Viral particles contained in central core of umbilicated lesions.
