- 3 subsets of C. trachomatis (CT):
- D-K biovars: genital tract chlamydia, worldwide STD-causing cervicitis, urethritis, PID, epididymitis
- L serovars: lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV)
- A-C biovars: trachoma (ocular)
- Now rarely performed for clinical care, laboratory culture requires tissue culture to demonstrate intracellular inclusion bodies [Fig 1].
