  • Illness anxiety disorder (IAD) is characterized by ≥6 months of excessive anxiety and preoccupation with either having or developing a serious medical illness despite experiencing few to no physical symptoms.
  • IAD is classified under the Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders section of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition Text Revision (DSM-5-TR).[1]
    • Other diagnoses under this section include somatic symptom disorder, functional neurological disorder (conversion disorder), and factitious disorder.
