- Insulinomas are islet-cell tumors.
- Most common functional neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas[10]
- Insulinomas secrete insulin autonomously and persistantly, despite hypoglycemia.
- Unregulated insulin secretion leads to decreased hepatic glucose output, resulting in hypoglycemia.[21]
- A cause of endogenous hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia
