- An underdiagnosed condition referred to by different names including "diabetic proximal neuropathy," "diabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexopathy," and "Bruns-Garland syndrome".
- Classically, a monophasic illness characterized by acute to subacute onset of severe pain followed by subacute, progressive, asymmetrical limb muscle weakness a few weeks after with variable degrees of recovery.
- Patients often have some level of concurrent DPN.
