Campylobacter jejuni is a curved or spiral-shaped microaerophilic member [Fig] of Campylobacteraceae.
- Culture conditions are optimal at 42°C, as it is well adapted to avian hosts in whom carriage is asymptomatic.
When cultured, stool specimens should be inoculated onto selective Campylobacter media (e.g., Campy-BAP, CVA, or CCDA) and incubated under microaerophilic conditions, typically near 42°C.
- Generally oxidase-positive.
- It does not grow well under routine aerobic culture conditions.
