PATHOGENS

  • Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular protozoan
  • Environmental exposure to oocysts (cat feces) or food exposure (undercooked meat containing tissue cysts) leads to human infection.
  • Infection lifelong; disease due to reactivation of latent tissue cysts. No transmission by person-to–person contact.
