  • Common pathogens: 
  • S. aureus: especially community-acquired MRSA (USA 300 strains)
  • P. aeruginosa: associated with whirlpools, hot tubs, heated swimming pool exposures
  • Pityrosporum: HIV-associated
  • Less common pathogens: 
  • Coliforms, e.g., Klebsiella, Proteus spp., etc.
  • Demodex folliculorum, mostly HIV-associated
