- Common pathogens:
- S. aureus: especially community-acquired MRSA (USA 300 strains)
- P. aeruginosa: associated with whirlpools, hot tubs, heated swimming pool exposures
- Pityrosporum: HIV-associated
- Less common pathogens:
- Coliforms, e.g., Klebsiella, Proteus spp., etc.
- Demodex folliculorum, mostly HIV-associated
