MICROBIOLOGY
- Enteric gram-negative bacilli. Normal part of gut flora.
- May be mistakenly identified as Salmonella; colonies on plates resemble E. coli.
- Species associated w/ infection most commonly C. freundii, C. amalonaticus & C. koseri (previously known as C. diversus).
